Structural Insulated Panels (or SIPs) sandwich a piece of rigid
foam insulation between two panels of wood with an industrial adhesive to form a structurally rated, highly insulated
building panel that can be used for exterior walls, roofs, floors, and even foundations.
SIPs are commonly composed of 7/16-inch thick oriented strand board with a core of expanded polystyrene, polyurethane,
extruded polystyrene, or polisocyanurate. Some manufacturers offer alernative "skins" made of plywood,
fiber-cement board, or metal, as well as a variety of panel thicknesses - four to six inches for wall system applications
and eight to 14 inches for roofing projects.
Panels are prefabricated to custom sizes and dimensions as specified by the design team and are shipped to the
job site ready for installation based on predetermined sequence. Openings for buiding details like windows, doors,
electrical chases, and wall switches are all pre-cut in the factory. Even curved panels are available.
The panels are installed one piece at a time and fastened using together using staples, nails, or screws. All joints
are then sealed with manufacturer-recommended sealing mastic, low-expanding foam sealant, or SIP tape, creating
a relatively air-tight envelope. Read more about SIPs here.
Premier's SIPs are a high-performance engineered wood product
with a super-insulating core of rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS), structurally laminated and pressure cured between
two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB). When using Premier SIPs for a building's roof, walls and/or floors,
the result is a highly efficient structural building system that is extremely strong, predictable, energy efficient
and cost effective.
One of the leading SIPs manufacturers for
more than 20 years, Premier Building Systems knows the right way to design, manufacture and install SIPs panels.
Premier has always been passionate about the technology that SIPs provide for the construction community. Their
history with SIPs has shown us that SIPs have shaped, and will continue to shape, the design and construction of
residential and commercial building envelopes.
Kimmel Construction is proud to be the Southern
California Distributor of Premier SIPs panels.

Did you know?
Premeir structures stay warmer in the winter & cooler in the summer.
Stronger: Buildings constructed with Premeir SIPs roofs, the roof alone is
strong enough that it doesn't need an engineered truss system.
Straighter: Pre-cut, ready for assembly, SIPs panels save time in framing. Save
hours/days without the need of endless cutting & shimming for installing cabinets, countertops, flooring, doors,
and lighting.
Greener: SIPs panels are made from rapidly renewable resources, offer better
indoor air quality, and temperature control.
